Easy Summer Solstice Celebration Ideas

Here we are enjoying the Annual Summer Solstice! The Summer solstice is such an important time to connect with nature. During the Summer solstice, the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky and gives us our longest day of the year. The summer solstice gives us more than 15 and a half hours of daylight. In Latin, “solstice” translates into “sol” meaning the sun, and “sistere” meaning to stand still. For an astronomical moment in time, the sun stands completely still. For us, we should also honor this annual milestone by partaking in some rituals of our own.

There are MANY traditions out there, and unique ways to celebrate, but here are a few easy ideas for those of us who arrived at today’s solstice with no plan.

Decorate Your Alter/Space

One of my favorite rituals for summer solstice (ok for all occasions) is to adorn and decorate my altar or space to honor the occasion, in this instance- Mother Earth. I like to decorate with signs of the season… seasonal herbs like yarrow, lavender, rue, mint, rosemary, and basil. So first thing is to go our and get some clippings from the Herbs in your yard. No herbs? How about flowers or vegetables? Something growing in nature that you can use to adorn your space. I read crystals such as citrine, garnet, and carnelian are best for this time of year because they have the ability to absorb light energy from the sun when placed outside on a sunny day, so adding these to my display is also helpful.

Leave offerings for your Fairy’s

It is simple just leave treats for the fairies. Milk & cream are favorites and so are sweets. (Sweets aren’t limited to cookies and cakes, they also love a sweet wine or sweet cocktail) Oh and don’t forget they LOVE sparkly things. Last but not least, the intetion of gifting that Fairies is just that a gift. Fairy 101 will tell you NEVER … EVER Thank a fairy, they do NOT like that at all. And do not invite them into your home, they have a place outside, that is where they belong.

Be in Nature

Honestly if you can do nothing else just get outside, no phone, no music, just absorb the sounds of nature. Lay in the grass and feel the energy of the ground, lean against the truck of a tree and feel it breathing. Listen to the sounds of the birds and bugs and tree frogs, the wind rustling in the trees. Just plug in and connect with nature You don’t have to go to a forest or a park you can do this from your own backyard if you need to. Just celebrate the sun and the bounty it provides us by shining down. Sure if you can go to a park or wooded area or even a forest, GO FOR IT, but it isn’t required. Be mindful of the scents, sounds and feelings surrounding you. Push everything else out of your mind as it tries to cascade back in & refocus on the sounds Mother Nature has provided. One of my favorite ways to connect is to go back to one of my childhood favorites, laying in the grass and watching the clouds. I simply ask, what do I need to learn or see today that can help me be the person I am meant to be, then sit back and take it all in.

Meditate on your intentions

ANY time is a good time to meditate!! Let me say that again, meditate DAILY and focus on your intentions, it should be a regular daily “todo” but for the purposes of the Summer Solstice - take time to reflect and connect with mother nature and set your intention for your ongoing relationship with” her” (Mother Earth)

Things to consider - First off, WRITE IT DOWN! What ever you want to manifest/create… put it in writing. What habits do you want to enhance or change? What are thie things that are important to you? What are the things that you want to manifest for your life? Then SAY IT OUT LOUD! During the summer Soltice I find this to be a unique way to broadcast my message to the universe. Create a Prayer Tree.

I like to use fallen branches “gifted” to me from the tree. Tree are revered as sacred living beings around the world. Humans and animals benefits from the gifts the Tree offers us daily, Fire, Shelter, Food etc. For the prayer tree/branch, select a fallen branch and adorn it with the things that you are wanting to manifest. You can write your dreams, visions on leaves, bark, paper, whatever you want. Just use things that are kind to the earth.

Happy Summer Solstice!!!!!
